[edit] Name the New History

Your article should be given the same name as the thread, where possible. If a thread of that name already exists, check that work has not already been started on transcription. If it is a different history that coincidentally has the same name, add in brackets a way of distinguishing it from the other, for example "John's House (Stafford)".

[edit] Categorise as Work in Progress

Add at the bottom the category Work in Progress.

[edit] Add Headings

Headings should be started as follows:

  • Thread Information
  • Characters
  • Plot Summary
  • Page One

[edit] Thread Information

Under Thread Information, the following should be given:

  • The date of the first post of the thread, where it is (with link), and whether it is complete or still ongoing.
  • Any notes about timelines, for example if it follows on from another RP.
  • Any other information you think useful.

[edit] Characters

Under Characters, bullet list the names of characters posting in that thread, in alphabetical order, and remember to link their names. Add in brackets who they are, for example if they are an NPC, a local important figure such as a Judge or Duke, or leader of an army or brigand group.

[edit] Plot Summary

In Plot Summary, write a brief sentence or two about what happens in the thread. Link any words that are themes in the plot, for example "murder", "kidnap", "wedding", "romance".

[edit] Adding Transcription

When transcribing text, first put the name of the character speaking in bold. Then paste in their posting, putting a colon at the start of each paragraph to indent it, like so:

Masked Man

He walked in to the room.
"What's going on here?!

Masked Woman

"I don't know, I only just got here myself."

Start a new heading for each new forum page. If the history starts getting very long it may be necessary to split it into more than one article, so keep an eye on the article's Discussion page to see what people think about that, and if they have any other comments to make. Add links that you think might be useful, for example if another important RP is mentioned in the text.

[edit] Indexing and Finishing

Specialist Bards will attend to making sure the characters and places you have linked in your story are indexed appropriately. When your story is done, change the category from "Work in Progress" to "Histories".
